Are humans in for a bleak future with AI taking over their jobs?

The artificial intelligence, as per my subjective understanding of the technology, has not explicitly demonstrated the fact that whether it is going to benefit humanity positively or create detrimental results for its very existence.

The reason why I am saying so is based on my observation over the past few months about AI in the context of its contribution to human evolutions. So far, I have noticed that more than giving benefits to the humanity or people on a large scale, the artificial intelligence has just rendered their status into a stage of depressive outcome, in terms of job loss.

The last year I came to know that Paytm has fired one thousands of its employees subsequent to enforcing AI-led automation in its business operations. In its press release, the company notified that it has experienced a performance boost by thirty percent post AI implementation, thereby lending more credibility to its official decision associated with terminating the jobs of those ill-fated employees whose fate is now sealed in the obdurate pressure of unemployment.

I have no idea of the current state of the livelihood of the jobless employees as the media has not covered that part exclusively. However, one thing I am compelled to deduce from that incident is that AI technology is benefiting the corporate houses, not the common people.

In fact, the common people are fated to be doomed sooner or later, considering the innovative technology is going to take their jobs, thus depriving them of money which would ultimately cause destitution and mental illness as well.

Whether you want to believe it or not, but one thing is clear that the advent and advancement of artificial intelligence is going to give advantageous edge of corporate houses over the general public.

I also tend to disagree with the logic that millions of jobs will be created due to the technology. Because, so far those hypothetical jobs have not manifested, and days are still far from today as to whether those jobs will ever materialize.

Since many people like to cook up the story about hypothetical case scenario of AI-led job creations in the future, therefore, social media and other platforms are abundant with fake news, conspiracy theories and psycho-babbles of so-called genius of artificial intelligence.

Almost all of them seem to think in unison, predicting the positive outcomes of the technology, but I don’t tend to agree with their opinions. I think job sectors ruled by human will be replaced by the intelligent machines.

Intelligent people will no longer retain their jobs, given their machine counterparts will be far more capable of handling processing related tasks more efficiently than them.

I know I may sound crying wolf now but trust me I hope I am wrong when I predict that human jobs will be replaced by intelligent machines and we will be so screwed up in the future.

I don’t even agree with those influencers drumming down their opinion into people that we must update our skills in artificial intelligence so that the intelligent machines won’t replace us in future. That is so childish holding onto that illusion.

For example, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said somewhere in his interview that employees who are skilled in AI will not be replaced by super intelligent machines. However, people without knowledge of AI will be replaced by those knowing AI.

Huang ordained similar future for companies, saying companies using intelligent machines will outpace or perhaps doom their counterparts not using AI. I find it very untrue, even though it was said by someone who is now a big name in AI race, especially in the field of GPUs that power up every neuron of artificial intelligence.

I don’t have any personal bias against intelligent machines nor against big corporate houses who invest millions and millions of dollar into AI development projects under the pretext of creating a smart world.

What makes me petrified is the reality of their statements or wishful thinking being at odds with the reality that we as humans face. Everybody holding a job feels scared of being replaced by intelligent machines.

Recently, I have had a discussion with my old friend who is a technical writer. In whose account, the future of his career seems bleak as his boss has declared that his company is going to enforce AI automation in writing and so the job of tech writers will no longer be the same as they have been doing.

My friend is not sure if he would be fired from his job. He has tried his luck in other companies but he was not selected for reasons best known to the recruitment companies.

Point is – nobody is sure of AI benefiting humans in their jobs in the future. What I have observed so far leaves me in doubt that jobs done by human professionals will be taken over by super intelligent machines. I hope I stand corrected but the way situations are unfolding day by day in the field of artificial intelligence, I don’t think I am wrong.
